Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 has been officially revealed by Activision and Infinity Ward. The game launches on Friday, October 23, 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Battle.net, Steam, Xbox on PC), and Nintendo Switch 2 — the first Call of Duty title on a Nintendo platform in over a decade. It will not be available on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.

Warfare Without Limits

War erupts on the Korean Peninsula as North Korea launches a full-scale invasion that threatens to destabilize the world. A young squad of South Korean soldiers fights to survive on the collapsing front lines, while half a world away a vengeful Captain Price wages a personal war from the shadows as he stays one step ahead of those hunting him. As Price's off-book mission collides with the forces behind the invasion, the war spreads beyond anyone's control.

Modern Warfare 4 pushes the series into darker and more dangerous territory, bringing long-running storylines to a powerful and emotional breaking point. The game encompasses three interconnected modes: Campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ.

Campaign

No Line Holds Forever

Fight as Private Park, a young South Korean soldier facing live combat for the first time alongside his squad. What begins as a routine patrol descends into chaos when North Korea launches a full-scale invasion, forcing Park and his unit into a desperate fight through collapsing cities and counteroffensives.

This is a new setting for the franchise, grounded in the military authenticity Modern Warfare is known for and built with attention to the culture, history, and military detail of the region. The conflict in Korea becomes the catalyst for a broader war.

Beyond the front lines, operator-turned-outlaw Captain Price works outside the system he once served. A hunt for revenge draws Price toward a weapon powerful enough to shift the balance of power, setting in motion a conflict far greater than he ever anticipated.

The Campaign drops players into trench warfare in Korea, close-quarters combat in New York, high-octane chases through Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and city-wide assaults to reclaim occupied territory — spanning set pieces across a war that spreads far beyond the front lines.

Multiplayer

Ballistic Authority

For Modern Warfare 4, a new weapon-first technology stack unifies precision aiming, physical handling, realistic audio propagation, enhanced visibility, and smarter combat perception into the most authentic Modern Warfare gunplay yet. The promise is simple: no bloom, no guesswork, and no doubt.

  • Bloom has been removed, making hipfire shots feel more direct, predictable, and connected to where the weapon is pointed.
  • Recoil, convergence, and weapon handling have been rebuilt to more directly reflect player input.
  • Depth of field and visual effects have been refined to improve enemy visibility without sacrificing authenticity.
  • Weapons respond more naturally to player movement, stance changes, and the environment.

Movement

Movement in Modern Warfare 4 is built around fluidity, control, and player freedom. Expanded movement options for Mantling, Climbing, Hanging, and Jumping create new opportunities to reposition, flank, navigate vertical spaces, and approach engagements from multiple angles. Every system is designed to preserve the grounded realism and physicality that define Modern Warfare.

Maps & Kill Block

Modern Warfare 4 launches with 12 Core maps — each with a custom infil and distinct visual identity — alongside dedicated Gunfight maps and multiple Big War maps built for large-scale vehicle and infantry combat. Every map spans a globally distinct environment shaped by the Campaign's conflict.

Kill Block is a new dynamic Multiplayer battleground set inside the Westbridge Training Facility, where the combat space reconfigures between rounds. Built from modular sections capable of creating more than 500 distinct configurations, no two rounds play exactly the same. Kill Block supports 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight formats, with future expansions planned.

Progression & Customization

A redesigned Create-a-Class system unifies Operators, weapons, Equipment, and Killstreaks into a single loadout. Gunsmith returns with deeper options — attachments are now shared by weapon class to streamline build creation. New to the series, Gunny (developed with Infinity Ward's Weapons Team) can instantly configure practical close-, mid-, or long-range builds based on your playstyle and unlocked attachments.

Modern Warfare 4 introduces Apex Attachments — specialized unlocks earned by fully levelling a weapon that can significantly alter handling, firing behaviour, tactical utility, stealth capability, or combat role.

Two Prestige paths are available: Classic Prestige (traditional reset with increased XP rates and exclusive rewards) and Regular Prestige (progression restarts from Level 1 without resetting Create-a-Class content, with its own reward milestones).

DMZ

DMZ is the definitive Call of Duty extraction experience. Deploy solo or with a squad into a volatile conflict zone as an off-the-books asset tasked with recovering advanced military technology left in the wake of war. Conditions in the exclusion zone always shift — changing weather, dynamic military objectives, and hostile forces moving throughout the zone.

Loot, fight, negotiate, betray, and extract with whatever you can carry. Every run is a risk, every encounter is a choice, and no two deployments play out the same. A dedicated DMZ deep-dive is scheduled for June 7.

Technology & Platforms

Current-Gen Exclusive

Modern Warfare 4 is built natively for current-generation consoles and PC, enabling greater scale, density, responsiveness, and consistency across every mode. Campaign, Multiplayer, and DMZ benefit from larger combat spaces, more active worlds, clearer engagements, and more consistent moment-to-moment performance.

PC

Infinity Ward and Beenox are partnering to deliver expanded PC-specific features, including DLSS 4.5 support, expanded real-time ray tracing across all three modes, multiple upscaling and frame generation options, and competitive-focused settings to prioritise high frame rates. Available on Battle.net, Steam, and Xbox on PC.

Nintendo Switch 2

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will be the first Call of Duty on a Nintendo platform in over a decade. Infinity Ward, in partnership with Digital Legends, is developing the game natively for Nintendo Switch 2. Pre-order details for Switch 2 will follow later this summer.

Warzone Platform Update

Beginning with Modern Warfare 4 Season 1, Call of Duty: Warzone will integrate MW4 content and seasonal progression. As part of this transition, Warzone on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will no longer be playable starting with Season 1. From June 4, the game will no longer be available for new downloads on those platforms, though existing players can continue until Season 1 launches.

What's Next

Infinity Ward's "From the Ward" video series will provide a deeper look at Multiplayer and gameplay systems in the days ahead, followed by a recap blog covering movement, gunplay, maps, modes, and progression in greater detail. A first look at DMZ arrives on June 7.

Pre-orders are available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. For editions, Vault Edition content, and the Loyalty Discount, see the official pre-order blog.
